Adventure trip to Norway

15 Jul 2022

Norway is the country known for its beautiful nature, partly due to the many forests, glaciers, fjords and lakes. In addition to its nature, Norway has a relatively good road network that is regularly maintained. This combination is perfect for the adventurer who wants to travel for a few days. Considering the fact that Norway is the most sparsely populated country in Europe after Iceland and Kazakhstan, the chances of meeting anyone outside the big cities are very small. But what makes Norway so interesting to take your motorbike on a multi-day trip?

If you really want to go for the full experience, where you bring all your own sleeping equipment, is possible to wild camp in Norway and you can spend the night in the forests, mountains, at the top of a fjord or along the coast, as long as nature is treated with care and respect . Would you like pass the border of Sweden during your trip or want to go to the country? Then the same rules apply in Sweden as in Norway when it comes to spending the night. The country offers a lot of freedom, but Norway is not around the corner for everyone. To ensure that you can travel to Norway with your own motorbike in a relaxed manner, it has become possible this year to depart from the Eemshaven in Groningen by ferry, including an overnight stay, to Kristiansand in Norway! The boat leaves from Eemshaven on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 15:30 and arrives in Kristiansand at 10:00. If you would also like to take the boat back after a wonderful trip in Norway, you can do so every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 15:30 from Kristiansand and the arrival time in Eemshaven is 09:30. For the sharp reader, the half hour difference in travel time has to do with the current of the water. The cost for a one-way trip is approximately €75 and the additional cost for a motorbike is approximately €90. Prices may sometimes vary during the year due to holidays. If you are interested in a crossing check the website of Holland Norway Lines.

One of the many beautiful routes from Kristiansand is to drive along the west coast via Egersund and Bryne to Stavager all the way up through the many islands to Bergen. Then you drive from Bergen to the centre of Norway and drive south to Jørpeland at the small town of Âlvik. Then at Forsand you can take the boat to the famous "Lysevegen road" and drive all the way to Kristiansand. This route is about 1200 kilometres and therefore a nice route for a couple of days.
